Our Farms and Producers
All of our growers and producers are located in the Northeast. They are spread across New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.
The vast majority of our farmers are either Certified Organic or use sustainable production methods. We work with a few "conventional" farms for items we cannot easily source organically.
These farmers are the reason we do what we do! By supporting their work, we are supporting each of their local communities, and keeping the Northeast region in agriculture.

Each week we simmer whole corn kernels with lime (calcium hydroxide) in a process called nixtamalization. One can also use wood ash in place of lime in this process. After having been brought to a simmer, the corn steeps overnight, becoming nixtamal, or hominy. We grind the nixtamal with volcanic stones into fresh masa. Masa translates to 'dough', and this dough can be made into tortillas, tamales, sopes, tlayudas, huaraches, memelas and so much more.

The 560-acre farm is located in Chittenden, Vermont and has been in the Baird family for four generations. Bonnie and Bob Baird own and operate the farm today while their daughter Jenna and her partner Jacob run the maple syrup business. Bob’s grandparents, Sara and Ralph Baird, both grew up on farms on the road. In 1918 they purchased our farm from Sara’s sister and brother-in-law. Their son Richard took over the operation in the 1940s and ran the farm until 1979 when Bonnie and Robert purchased the property. Maple syrup was produced here even before the Bairds moved to the property.

Ploughgate Creamery has been crafting small-batch, cultured butter of the finest quality in Vermont since 2014. Cultured butter, what is it? In short, it’s butter made in the European style by adding live active cultures to cream before churning, similar to cheese or yogurt. Cultured butter is tangier and richer than your everyday stick butter, with a taste reminiscent of cheese. That’s because cultured butter and cheese share a critical first step–the addition of beneficial live bacteria (the ‘culture’ in cultured butter).

Julie, the owner, was born in France, a country where they take their kitchen gardens seriously and simultaneously take them for granted; they are simply a part of life. When Julie moved as a child with her family to Vermont, gardens always helped to ground her and make her feel at home. When traveling as a teenager and a young adult, and later as a market gardener in her twenties and thirties, gardens of all kinds drew her in for a closer look and connection. Julie grows plants because she loves them and they speak to her. Brewer's Crackers is an Up-Cycled cracker company driven to reduce food waste in the craft brewing industry. US Breweries in the US produce over 1 billion tons of edible food waste each year that ends up in our already crowded landfills! These grains are a valuable by-product from the beer making process. When making beer, brewers steep super high-quality grains, like barley, in water. They then strain this mixture, keeping the liquid to make beer and discard the "spent" grains. Turns out, these grains are still incredibly flavorful and the steeping process actually unlocks valuable nutrients. We recycle these grains into our crackers and chips. Our goal is to rise above other cracker companies by providing our customers with an honest, healthy, sustainable, and delicious product.

Sidehill Farm Yogurt is a small family-owned creamery producing fresh, delicious, certified organic yogurt from the milk of grass-fed cows. We began as farmers, and for nearly 15 years, we made Sidehill Farm yogurt from the milk of our own grass-fed herd of cows. In 2020, we decided that we could do more good for our community, and the community of local dairy farmers, by purchasing milk from a handful of small family farms who treat their cows the same way we did. Now more cows live satisfying lives grazing grass and acting like cows, more soil biology improves and gains fertility, more dairy farmers receive a high pay price for their milk, more yogurt makers make yogurt and provide for their families, and more loyal customers get to buy fantastic organic, grass-fed yogurt made here at Sidehill Farm. That sounds pretty exciting to us! Please try our yogurt and taste the deliciousness a healthy farming community can create!

For a lot of families, it can be a struggle to afford healthy foods. At the same time, many local farmers and processors grow an abundance of fresh crops during the growing season with no way to preserve the surplus. This results in unrealized profit potential for farmers, with some of their crops ending up as food waste instead of on people’s plates. So, we’ve decided it’s time to make a change. We’ve teamed up with several partners to launch an innovative frozen food processing system that preserves fresh produce from small to mid-size farms and distributes it to food services and retailers, where families can access it at a reasonable price.

Folks often ask me how I got into the "Broth Business". Really, the answer is that it was an organic process, if you'll pardon the pun. I had a baby at the beginning of a very long and unusually cold and snowy winter. We got sick, our friends and their kids got sick. We waited for the snow plows and ate soup. It was the only thing that made us feel better. Once my family was healthy again, I began "broth bombing" our friends and neighbors; leaving broth I'd made on their porches with text messages to unfreeze and make whatever makes them feel better. Eventually the snow melted, but friends and family kept asking to order more broth, and Lily's Ladle was born.
